Bàird Uibhist – Bards of Uist DVD

DVD (52 minutes, Gaelic with subtitles, region 2/PAL)
Bha bàrdachd thraidiseanta air a dèanamh airson a h-aithris. Mar sin, bha blas na sgìre na phàirt fior-chudtromach de cheòl nam faclan. Air an DVD seo, cluinnidh sibh piosan bàrdachd le Dòmhnall Ruadh Mac an t-Saoir agus Dòmhnall Iain Dòmhnallach (Dòmhnall Iain Dhonnchaidh) às na meadhannan an Uibhist a Deas air an aithris le Bill Innes a thogadh anns an aon chearn.
Tha piosan le Ruairidh Mac Aoidh, Dòmhnall Ruadh Chorùna agus Aonghas Mac ’ill Fhiallain à Uibhist a Tuath air an aithris le Niall Fearghasdan.
As Gaelic traditional poetry was composed for recitation, the local accent was a vital ingredient of the musical sound of the words. Local variations are dying out as Gaelic becomes more homogenous, so this DVD seeks to preserve for future generations the authentic sound of the verse.
Some of the works of Donald Macintyre and Donald John MacDonald from the middle region of South Uist are read by Bill Innes (who was brought up within sight of their birthplaces).
Poems by Roderick Mackay, Donald MacDonald (of Coruna) and Angus Maclellan of North Uist are read by Neil Ferguson.
