Since Comann Eachdraidh Uibhist a Tuath was established in the late 1980’s the organisation has been actively collecting photographs, oral history and documents that reflect the social history of North Uist. The photographic collection is still mostly in print form and is held in the Archive & Research Area at Taigh Chearsabhagh. The collection is still growing and now contains over 3500 prints and transparencies. Although there is a focus in 2011 on gathering images related to transport and communication Comann Eachdraidh Uibhist a Tuath are still keen to collect photographs associated with North Uist that cover the following themes – Armed Forces & Wartime, Crofting & Agriculture, Craft, Domestic & Family Life, Education & Childhood, Maritime, Personal Life, Social Life Trade & Retail.
It is hoped that a catalogue list of the oral history recordings and document archives will be available for reference soon.
