Further and Higher education in visual arts is provided at Taigh Chearsabhagh through Lews Castle College, part of the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), attracting school-leavers and mature students from the islands and further afield.

An award-winning National Certificate in Art and Design and a BA (Hons) in Fine Art (in partnership with Moray College in Elgin) are both based in the centre’s studio facilities.

Students have unique opportunities to experience international contemporary arts at first hand through Taigh Chearsabhagh’s Arts Programme, meeting artists and attend talks and workshops, indeed many exhibiting artists return as visiting tutors.

Fundamental to the teaching and learning is the location of the islands. A strong environmental focus underpins all aspects of the courses, the Uists provides a unique and inspiring place to work. The natural environment and strong cultural heritage are important areas of research.
